Fraser Island is on the east coast of Queensland, Australia.  It is one of the largest sand islands in the world and is a major tourist attraction for its unspoilt beauty of forest and beach.

At the northern end is Sandy Cape, with a light house.  Breaksea Spit runs for many miles further north.  The are a few channels across it suitable only for high powered, shallow draught vessels and skippers with more local knowledge than fear.  Everyone else goes around.

The download shows the northernmost tip of the island and the start of Breaksea Spit (not the little lagoon but the outer breakers) The camera is looking east.

Good seamanship requires prudence as well as skill and knowledge.  Skippers in such places are either old or bold, but not old and bold.
