AMATEUR WEATHER FORECASTING
An Autumn day is just beginning in South East Queensland (North Stradbroke Island). Typical of the calm conditions that often prevail during this time of year in the tropical and sub-tropical areas of the East Coast of Australia. With a dawn sky of this nature, there is a fair chance of good conditions prevailing that day.
If you are a keen observer of nature, and you tend to be if the weather affects your comfort and safety, you learn by experience what is likely to happen.
Official weather forecasts cover a large area and are not always accurate for local conditions especially at times such as sunrise. The day in this image is likely to be suitable for boating all day, but even if wasn't going to be suitable all day it may well be possible to leave about dawn and come back a few hours later.
The ripples on the water show that there is currently a land breeze. After the sun starts to warm the land there will be a period of calm, followed by a sea breeze which would be light at first. If you are motoring, this is a good time. If you are sailing, wait for a few hours.
